Job Call Roundup - Who Got Their Calls Into Spectra On Time? Edition

We were going to separate these calls into really obnoxious categories - "best line that no one will share any rumors about", "best call that makes absolutely no sense", "best offer with prospects for free catered lunches". Then we remembered that this is not an anonymous blog and that we don't have a job. So after the jump, the roundup of interesting or unusual listings with as little commentary as we could manage. Except to say: who actually uses the word "subserve" in a job call?

* Annenberg has two senior assistant or associate calls out:

Areas of interest are: [1] public opinion theory and measurement; and [2] communication processes and institutions in Asia, China in particular. Within these primary areas, related substantive research areas might include health; management regulation and policy; and entertainment.

Full job call here.

* Our beloved alma mater (go Panthers) has two tenure track lines. The first is a rhetoric and culture line and the second is as straight-forward a rhet sci line as has ever graced the august pages of Spectra. Hmmm.

* Also on the "yeah, at least a couple people will probably show some interest" list: Louisiana State has two lines, one in social science (whatevs) and then a second tenure track line in rhetorical criticism, rhetorical theory, or public address.

* UC Davis:

Seeking an individual whose research interests are primarily concerned with the development of theories that elucidate the fundamental processes that subserve social interaction.

Seriously?

* Willamette has a tenure track position described as a "position in rhetoric" but that kind of looks like a cultural studies line. These things happen.

* Georgetown College seeks an applicant who takes "a broad approach to the study of Communication within a liberal arts context" and who also has "an appreciation for how their interest areas intersect with relationship, organizations and media communication". Sometimes it's really hard to reverse engineer the faculty meeting where a job call got hammered out. Sometimes less so.
